Little problem with my friends 29 that I hope you can help with?

It won't start on the button, but will with a bump start.

She said that it turns over just fine, just wont fire.

Any ideas?

Stuck starter motor? Whack with a rubber mallet might help!!

Hi Rich, my nc23 has done similar things when the battery is a bit flat. Its as though all the power is going to the starter motor and none of it to the ecu, coils.


Try giving the battery a charge and see how it is then.

my money is on the Reg rect...

try charging the battery if that works then I would say the reg rect is knackered and you will need to replace both the battery and reg rect...

if the starter motor was stuck, youd get a click, click, + in neutral not be able to roll the bike forward as the starter gear is in the way.
what i had to do was roll the bike back and forth in neutral until the starter had disengaged its self. then push start it.

have you tried jump starting it or with a starter pack?
silly Question, have you checked if the battery leads are in on?

It could just be the battery I had this problem about 2 weeks ago it would just tick tick tick on the starter button but not fire up then flatten the battery after about 5 mins of trying, I put a brand new battery in fully charged and it started up first press with no throttle just a bit of choke, I have a bettery tester and have been checking the level every other day now for about 2 weeks and it always remains fulyl charged and I have done a good 150 miles in various conditions with lights on all the time

the bike does spin up on the button, but just doesnt fire up, so maybe it just isn't getting enough juice from the battery to the cdi to fire the coils.

I will give it a jump tomorrow and see

I did mean cdi, not ecu. I found that the bike would fire as i took my thumb off the starter button. If i was lucky the engine was spinning fast enough to start.

If it bump starts ok, cant you just tell her to run it down the road to start it. Women these days are so fussy and demanding! Think of all the health benefits of the extra exercise.
