I stripped the back end down tonight. I'd rather not removed the exhaust at the moment as it puttied together at the joint. It's going to be subject to work after the new chain and sprockets are fitted, along with Ohlins shock I've acquired. I removed all the linkage, what's the easiest way to remove the shock. Pull the subframe undertray backwards and take it out the top?
Also does anyone fit grease nipples in the shock linkage, I've done this on a number of bikes in the past, to keep them full of grease.

take the linkages off and take it out the bottom of the swingarm.

thanks Mark. I've removed the linkages but I'm not so sure the hose to the reservoir will go through at the correct angle when the exhaust is present. Shock is stock.. .

It will take a little waggling but it will go through I am sure. I don't recall it being "too" tight when I last did it< lol

Raise swinging arm and turn shock body 90 degrees, it will go.

Never bothered with grease points as bearings last well and don't take long to strip and grease.
You will still be left with the rubber bush where the shock bolts on, but perhaps a needle bearing like the NC35 type could be used.

thanks Dave will give that a go. I guess the ohlins will have a sperical joint. I just wasn't sure last night the std shock would come out with the exhaust in place.
Hopefully Ohlins will arrive today and I can get on and do it tonight. if it wasn't so tricky to get the swingarm out i may have done that too, checked the bearings in that, then it's all done. But using the Abba stand it hold the bike using the Swingarm pivots. . . .
i'd be tempted to plate up that hole in the swingarm too, bit of ally plat and some tiny rivets

No, the bush is in the link not the shock, but the top shock one will be spherical.

I have used duct tape to seal the swinging arm hole, as it is easily removed, but builders foam or even cut a piece of polystyrene to fit in the hub end casting [washing machine etc packing] when shock is still in place.

yes sorry i know what you refer to now. It's a fork on the bottom of the damper. I ordered a swingarm tool too. .. .. whole hog!

Worth removing hub, [before removing swinging arm] to clean out the debris in the swinging arm and clean up the chain adjuster if it has been punched round.
The needle rollers can be greased so can the outer ball bearing if the rubber seal is prized off, but you wont be able to get much into the inner one

Grease the hub outer on assembly.

thanks, I've already undone the nut (sprocket side). how does the unit come apart? [really I should RTFM -Read The F****g Manual!] haven't tried yet but will tonight, once i've ground the link off the chain. Sprocket tool won't arrive until tomorrow earliest. No sign of Ohlins either
