NC23: forks and other new bike drivel

My second daft QU today....

Does anyone know if the 1989 nc23 Aero ones are the same? Think the springs have gone in mine (can now hear them creaking ??) and they've got a bit of a dint anyway so possibly thinking of swapping forks rather than messin' with them.

All other suggestions gratefully received...

:scared:

(Heading back out to the garage to bounce 'em up and down to make sure it's really the forks creaking not anything else that's genrally flapping about....)

Cheers all,

S

Righto - Cheers all - pretty sure it's "something else flapping about" now anyway (which is good - I think)

Will have to take tank off and investigate.

When it stops raining.

If it stops raining.

Working on the bike in the rain is good practice for when you are on the hardshoulder of the motorway in a strange country. my advice would be to wait til its dark as well.

;)

Oh, and hide all your really useful tools as well, it makes it more of a challenge.

I have a set of Graeme France modified forks from an NC23 if you're interested?

They've got single rate springs for my 11 1/2 stone bulk and pre-load adjusters from an NC30(?)

I had them uprated for trackdays but found that they were great on the road too. I put a std set on the bike when I sold it last year and have been meaning to advertise them ever since.....

Cheers, Paul

Cheers Paul - Prob out of my budget & might be a bit much for my 9st bulk (then again add leathers boots and lid  ) but just out of interest.....???????

Back on the continuing saga of the tri arm... Have temporarily swapped springs for a set out of another bent pair of forks (in the dark too) Big improvement. Also fitted a proper airbox -also in the dark - don't know if that's a big improvement yet as haven't had a chance to go fast enough (Incidently cured creaking noise in the process :) ) .

The rear shock is now attracting my attention but that can take a number and form a line behind the small amount of play in the front wheel bearing & the knackered slider pin on the front RH caliper (Picked up a spare one of them so should be easy fix). Stearing head bearings also slightly loose and lock washer tabby thing appears to have died.

The CBR will not be going to Rockingham on Saturday  (Talked into a short notice track day by my brother)

The SV will have to stand in.....

Now I'll stop boring you all

Open to sensible offers on the forks and could chuck in yokes too in you needed them?

Sealing the airbox made a heck of a difference on mine, along with fitting 1 size larger main jets. Redlined in all gears and got rid of all the flat spots too!

Wish I still had it too :(

Ok, I've been busy....

Knackered front Wheel bearings replaced....

Knackered Steering head bearings replaced for rollers....

& forks swapped for Paul's set.....also used the bottom yoke just incase the bearing fitting didn't go to plan...

Also pulled front brakes apart (leaving pistons firmly in situ), peered at them and put them back together.... nothings falling off, nothings leaking & they work - that'll do for me - though whoever thought of routing the hoses through the bottom Yoke has not won any cool points from me.....

Anyway....
WHAT A DIFFERENCE....... :o

yeeha!

Now moving on to the far more mundane fuel pump relay....oh & fitting the fron fairing.....

Getting there, Getting there....
