Hiya All,

RE:Emergency Stop - the Back end Weaves side to side -whats up?

This has happended twice now. The 1st time I though was just a freak occurance - but twice?

Situations:
1. Bike and Tyres not fully warmed up both times. (I'd be just done the road - 5 mins top?)
2. Standard Brake Hoses and Fluid changed 800 miles ago. Brake Pads have loads of life left.
3. Bike was "serviced" 800 miles ago.
4. I get the weaving - I back off the front Brakes - and stop just in time!
5. CBR400, NC29

Hope you can advise on the areas I can look into

Cheers
Martin

Hi Marty,

It sounds like the back wheel is locking up. If the tyre is cold it wont have as much grip so its sliding.

back wheel locked,

release the back brake and stay on the front.

Thanks for the input guys!

The Crash bungs went on over the weekend.

I reckon next weekend, I'm going to find a quiet straight bit of road, and will practice the Emergency stops! (I'll read up on techniques over this week)

Cheers
Martin

PS:
Thinking about it:
1. Cold tyres and everything
2. "Technique" needs inproving

These are probably the main culprits!

3. The suspension can do with a reburbishment:
The bike rides brilliant on long twisty runs. So that must be the proof of the pudding. No major mechnical issues!

did you ever slid the back end on a push bike?
if so "ride" the skid the same way on a motorbike.
i know loads of people say "avoid locking rear brake" but its not easy, you panic and slam on the anchors. its a natural reaction

like has been already said, it is prob the rear locking up with cold tyres but with hard front braking the back gets light and lifts off the ground ever so slightly and being lighter makes it feel like its all over the place

easy on the rears! The front brakes if their working properly should provide around 90% of your total stopping power, I hardly ever use the back unless i'm doing some slow speed driving.

is this happening in the same spot on your travels? if so find another way round or ride past slowly expecting to stop.

nothing unusual here,as the others have said its the rear loosing contact with the road...
its a good feeling while racing...yes,it happens with hot slicks..yay
thing is...for u...hopefully its not happening to oftern...if it is,u should readjust your riding style...
