Hey guys just picked up my vfr 400 nc30, was told needed a new indiactor relay, when i looked at it and tried 3 relays it was just clicking but no lights, tracked it down to a faulty bulb holder and a - to + short hand managed to get them partialy working, second problem is the left hand switch gear internals are worn right works gr8 but left intermittanly due to poor connection, anyone know away to fix this? regards Phil

Ah melted internals.
What headlight bulbs do you have in there.
The NC30 Jap model ran H4R (35/60w) bulbs as stock, hence they had no low-beam relay.
People mod and put H4's in there. Without a relay to handle the extra load (110w instead of 70w) the switchgear melts overtime due to the extra current.
If you have H4's and want to keep them have a look over on vsource, they have a low-beam relay mod guide (easy to do) and if you can't clean up the switch-gear buy a new one.
But if you do have H4's, without the relay mod the new switch will burn up over time.

My NC35 has just experienced the same fault

i wanted to ask. does the low beam relay Mod bypass the left hand switchgear altogether?
My point being, if i was to do the low beam mod, do i still need to buy a new LHS switchgear?

No, it meerly uses the relay to power the bulb, the switchgear still turns the bulb on and off.
You can clean up and repair the switch by trimming any melted plastic if it isn't too melted.
If not you'll need a new switch, then either H4R bulbs or a relay if you want to carry on using H4's

with the rvf though, the low beam is constantly on.. there is no on/off button as such..
I haven't got my manual to hand, but am i right in thinking one power wire goes into the switchgear then 2 wires come out to the bulbs. white being low beam and the other high beam? the button on the switch for H/B then completes the circuit for H/B when pressed?
sorry if thats a dumb question, it takes a while to get my head round electrics..
To the OP... I may have a left hand switchgear for the VFR. i'll check my shed tomorrow for you :)

Ah your on an RVF.
The high switch activates a relay that switches the high beam on.
I'm not close enough to one to look at the switch gear for the low beam. Perhaps the bulb is dead? Is is using H4's or standards?

the bulbs are the 60/55w without a low beam relay mod.. both working fine on H/B
the switchgear i beleive is faulty, when i bridged a wire from the switchgear to the bulb directly, the low beam does work..
there is a thread with pics and more detail on what i checked here

The only Relay i can find in Maplins is a 12v 40Amp. the instructions on V4source indicate a 12v 20amp should be used.. could someone tell me if the 40amp will work?
