Hey all,

Stupid question i know, but i need the back wheel off my vfr400 to get a new tyre for it, is it as simple as taking out the bolt? :S seems too easy? Also, how do i support it without a paddock stand? Block under the exhaust maybe?

Where you at? Might be someone that can loan you a stand for a day..

Getting the rear out without one is a ballache - you can use axle stands under the pegs if you are stuck.

loosen the bolt first...and be prepared to twat it if the last time it was off it was not lubricated/copaslip'd

i would use a paddock stand really, or axle stands under the rearsets if there not the folding type if you have to but have some one hold the bike if your pulling and tugging on the wheel, undo the wheel nut and tap the wheel off the hub you might need to whack it if its not been off for some time, if its a bitch to get off apply a bit of copper slip to the studs on the axle to stop it seizing on for the next time you need to remove it

In aberdeen in scotland, anyone close? when you take the wheel off does the disc/sprocket etc come off aswell? :S

no the just the wheel comes off , the sproket, axle and parts stay on the swinger,

no need to touch the left hand hub nut , just the right hand wheel nut to take wheel off

Alright thats great thanks. Would i just leave the bike on the axlestands when its getting the new tyre fitted yeah? Does the wheel need to be aligned right on the axle or does it not really matter?

first of all really try to get a paddock stand, axle stands are not the best way so just make sure its secure or it will go over, when the wheel is off you will see there are spikes on the axle that slot into holes on the back of the wheel , simples

Ok. Are there any you would recommend? Would a £60 one off ebay be alright or would i be best to spend more and get a good one?

abba stand is the best really as it supports the bike from the swingarm bolt thru the frame ( you need to get the adapter kit for your bike when you buy one), so it takes the weight off the shock and related parts if you need to remove that , plus a little weight on the back end it will lift the front off the ground too, or a decent single sided paddock if you just intend on rear wheel removal from time to time
