hi guys,

my 400 j model starts on the button every time.......my issue is this, when idling first it clanks slightly and when i rev it just to 2000rpm it goes.....but once warmed up it is normal. i can stop it and start it and it sounds normal when its warml......what could the cause of this be or am i worrying about nothing?

What oil are you using and how old is it ??
What is the idle reading on your rev counter when its making the noise?

Perhaps the start clutch is getting worn? The rivets holding the halves together get worn and come loose. It's possible to weld it back together if you catch it in time. Next time, try to check if it's a rattly sort of noise coming from the front left engine cover.

If it was starter clutch would it stop rattling after a few mins.it starts normal and only rattly when rev first thing up to 2000 rpm them fine. After 3 mins its gone. It kicks going into first its first time but after that it is perfect. More than likely related and have been pricing new states clutch and springs on bitz4bikes last week.

Oil is fresh. Idler at 950 rpm fine with no noise. Only when reved up to 2000rpm that it makes the noise. This only happens when cold . Normal running when warm.

Tick over should be 1300 +/- 100?

Mine would conk out at 950rpm.

Try pulling the clutch in when starting to see if that makes and change to the noise.
