If I'm thinking of the same thing, I believe they use rivet nuts (commonly known as rivnuts) to attach the fairing brace. I'm pretty sure the only way to remove them is by drilling them out, start with a drill bit that is the same size as the body of the rivnut. It can be a bit of a bugger to get them out, especially if they're already spinning. You might be able to borrow someones rivet nut tool and try compressing it a bit more (it works the same as a normal rivet).
Hopefully this helps a bit??? Good luck.
