Hi All,

Newbie here... OK, I'm a UK expat here in Singapore and the owner of a low milage (kilometers) CB400 VTEC III which I bought new almost 4 years ago.

However, at the beggining of next year I'll more than likely be returning to the UK and I'm contemplating bringing my bike back with me, but, here's my dilema...

With this bike being primarily for the Japanese market and in order to get it into and on UK road's, to the best of my knowledge, it will need to pass an MSVA test due to a COC (Certificate of Conformity) not being available for these bike's.

The only problem seems to be the speedo clock which is in KPH instead of MPH, which, again, to the best of my knowledge, is required to pass an MSVA test.

As there's no MPH replacement clock available for these CB400's and no one seems to produce a MPH clock face either... can anyone on here advise what I can do to get it onto UK roads ?

Is it possible to get a "near enough" mph overlay from eBay? That's all BAT, DK and the rest did when they brought 400's over back in the 90's, so I reckon it should be enough?

If it is still using a cable driven speedo you could fit one of the blue converter doodads on the back of the clocks.

Other than that the most likely problem is emissions. I am not up on SVA rules, but your bike is new enough that to have been sold here, it would probably have needed to be Euro-3 compliant. I don't know if that is relevant when doing an SVA test as I doubt yours is?

Someone on here does have a late-model CB400 with a UK plate on it. I can't remember who though, or how/where he bought it

Thanks for the response... unfortunately with it being an '08 model the clock isn't cable driven, it's all electronic !

As for the Euro-3 compliance thingy, this is what a COC basically represents. B,ut as my bike is not Euro-3 compliant (being for the Japanese market) it can still be used on UK roads if it can pass an MVSA test... in my case, the only problem appears to be the requirement for the speedo clock to read in MPH.

Anyone else... ?

Ah, digi speedo, eh?

How about if you get a speedo healer, set it to reduce by a factor of 8:5, and scribble "MPH" over where it says "KPH"? They are universal except for the loom connector, so either buy a generic "Honda" version, or get whatever comes up cheap enough on eBay and fit your own connectorif the one on it isn't right.

Just take the clocks apart and put a MPH label over the KPH on the clocks, white lettering on the a black back ground and make it look as original as possible they never check that it is actually reading in MPH, Just take your word that it's been converted! worked on my 2002 Honda CL400
