frame bracing?

hi,
working on the bike today i noticed an oval hole on the inside of the frame(both sides), it has a steel disc? bolted to a steel bar that is bolted to the frame??
what does this lump of steel do inside the ally frame?? is it there to beef it up? stop flex?? add weight for balance??
or none of the above??
also is the steel bar that goes between the frame spars that the tank bolts to entirely necessary??? does the frame need to be braced there?
also the steel that is bolted to the back of the front sprocket cover, can that be removed??
(i'm on a bit of a weight saving mission!)
cheers
SteveO

It does something.
Maybe it prestresses the frame rails

Sound or vibration deadening? If you bung a photo up it'd help

it's a 89 3en2, the bit's look like they were meant to be there, but just wondering what they did as if they are just balancing "for comfort" on a road bike then i don't need them on my track bike.
i only really noticed them because the bolt on one of them must of come undone during my last trackday with no ill effects...
they will have to stay in for sundays blast, so will look into taking some pics of the offending items after that...
apparently the metal bits behind the front sprocket cover are engine mount dampers??

Think i know what bits your talking about behind the sprocket cover, look like two oval(ish) bits of steel. I've taken them out to clean up the cover but never thought about what they do or if leaving them out would be a problem. If the Jap's put them there you can be sure there was a good reason

I think I'd be inclined to leave them there but you could try running the bike without. If it make a few vibes then put them back, those extra vibes could cause the engine a bit more wear or poor running .... anyway even if it's a track bike a couple of extra grams isn't going to make to much difference.
