£120 + vat to paint a wheel, expensive????

I've decided I need to get my wheels repainted, after my powder coat or paint post I think I'll go for paint.
Local to me is a bike paint shop. Altamura in Camberley, I e-mailed them for a price and they have replied
"Painting the wheels gives the wheels a much better finish rather than powder coating as sometimes the powder coating can go blotchy.
To paint the wheels in NH196 Ross White comes out at £120+ vat per wheel, this includes thorough preparation that is vital for a high quality finish and we also use a much harder lacquer on the wheels to protect the wheels and the paintwork thus creating a much smoother finish that looks stunning and also easier to clean your wheels with just soapy water.
You also have the choice of having your wheels with a painted pinstripe for an extra £20+ vat per wheel or to add a logo for example 'HRC' an extra £10+ vat per wheel.
If you can remove the bearings then this would be helpful but if its a problem we can remove them and replace them for you."
I think that seems more than a bit on the high side, compared to some prices other people mentioned before.
So the question really is, where can I get them done cheaper!
Cheers

That is pricey dave but doesnt suprise me, most established paint sprayers charge the earth for anything these days. Im not sure what special laquer they use i thought 2k was about the best available???
When i paint them i get them blasted @ £10 per wheel, then flatten them off as blasting can sometimes leave them a bit rough, etch prime them, primer, paint then 2k laquer. NC wheels can be a pain sometimes as its hard to get the insides of the spokes smooth and flat but with a little time spent on them a good finish can be achieved.
I think £150 a set is reasonable although its hard to justify it to some as i can get them powder coated for £50 a set. Personally id still paint them tho, im not a fan of PC

That price was £120 a wheel, not a pair! +VAT = nearly £300 fecking quid.

Far too expensive. You're looking at around that price for a set of wheels done.

Steve,
I am not keen on powder coat for major items but if cost is an issue then try Aurora in Ash vale, they are reasonable.
Dave. Old white and slow.

dear as fook, dont do it. your looking at roughly, 100 a set to either PC or 2K and that would include prep imo too. was that 120 a wheel too?

No worries Fred
Where can I get my wheels painted for £100 to £150 for the pair, as everyone seems to suggest that's the going rate?
