				Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has tried to fit adjustable fork tops (preload of course) from another model bike (not necessarily Yamaha) to the FZR400 1WG. As you know the forks on this model are conventional and the stantions are 38mm (outside) diamater. In the past on a race 3HE FZR600 I had Maxton's modified the stock fork tops and put some preload adjusters on them. To avoid that (sending them over etc) I am wondering if anyone knows another model (CBR600?) fork tops that would bolt on to FZR400s 38mm tubes. E.g. which other models have 38mm conventional forks from Yamaha with preload adjustment? Because it is likely that they would fit also to the FZR 400.
Regards,

The 2TK I think .... but really it would better to simply replace the whole front end

I know the FZR400 2TK, as I know also that the specific breaker on ebay has lost it, it broke a bike of 600-700 value to thousands of pounds worth parts.
My question really wasnt for the 2TK adjustable fork tops, because buying these new from yamaha would be better to buy another used FZR 400 (I mean the fork tops not the whole forks!) I am wondering however if we can swap the stock non adjustable fork top caps on most FZR 400s with something else (not FZR 400 2TK) eg R6 or ... what ever bike was running 38mm conventional forks in the past history...
Alternatively has anybody tried to modify the stock fork tops and make preload adjustable? Shouldnt be too difficult I think and i may try it.
Regards,

I think the ones with the adjustable tops are conventional spring and damper forks but the ones with adjustable tops (and usually comp adjusters at the bottom) are cartridge style.
The cartridge forks are better all round not just because they have rebound adjustment.
For the amount of effort and the amount of gain you'll get from rebound adjustment (only) on a road bike I wouldn't bother. Make spacers for the springs (compression) and adjust the oil gap (rebound) or fit a different front end.

Can't really see what you're getting at here... I'd just wait for some knackered 2tk forks show up on ebay and pinch the tops off them.
I've got 2tk preload adjusters on my fzr600 forks .....one day I might even use them to set up my suspension

I probably should've put the thundercat forks on as I have now been told they are cartridge forks but wanted to get on the road quick and keep the standard front wheel.
