I have a couple of tasty looking R clips - I'll give them a measure and if they fit will be up for grabs! Pics to be posted soon

One thing i found with using normal r clips is that they only slide through like this
I would want them to spin round to the vertical position instead of being horizontal. They dont have a big enough kick in the clip to fit over the nut/thread so in my opinion dont really look right.

The correct [original] size split pin for both RC and NC axles is 2.5mm.
I use that size for both split pins and "R" clips, but I managed to fit a 3.0 mm clip with careful alignment, but it looks a bit chunky.

After having a look round tinterweb it would seem that if we wanted an R-clip to sit the proper way, the diameter of the R-clip would need to be greater. Which would mean drilling a larger hole for the clip to go through. Its obviously a strength issue, as the size goes up, so does the diameter.

No, it already stops the nut from turning.
A tie wrap or lock wire around the 2 clip ends gives added security.
I will lock wire mine as I would prefer a clip that engaged with 4 not 3 serations in the nut

I use a 3.6mm clip on mine but did enlarge the hole in the axle slightly to accommodate it.
