Hey everyone, I hope I put this thread in the right place. I recently bought a 91 nc30 in Bangkok. It has been running okay, but when I give it a full twist while driving, the revs spike all the way up to redline instantly. Now, this happens in every gear unless I build up the revs progressively, so I presume this isn't wheels in ori would be dead. Is this the gears slipping? What can I do to fix it?

It's the clutch slipping.

You need to buy new clutch plates.

It's the clutch slipping.

You need to buy new clutch plates.

*cough*

First, check cable adjustment. There should be about 5-10mm freeplay at the ball end of the lever.

Then if that doesn't solve it, new plates and/or springs. Ensure you refill with proper bike oil, it could be the clutch died due to using synthetic car oil with non-friction additives.

Thanks for this again, in Thailand it's pretty hard to find a good nc30 mechanic....even harder to find one that can speak english

You can check the cable adjustment too but theres quite a few bikes with ragged clutches in Thailand...

You need to check the plates to see what you need.

All the specs are in the Honda service manual (you can download it off the net, message me if you can't find it)

When changing plates / springs / friction plates (usually only friction plates are needed) but sometimes springs and metal ones too!

Dump the old oil and fill it with new 10-40 semi-synth oil.

Don't forget to soak to new friction plates in the engine oil before fitting them.. if you fit them dry they burn until the oil is covered on them

There a UK seller and sell EBC clutch-plates which are cheaper. I think they ship international too..
