Everytime i start the nc30 up from cold with the choke on it starts first time, runs at about 5,000rpm sweets as a nut then you'll take the choke of and it'll die, you then can't start it for some reason? other times i'll leave it for 6-10 mins on choke then it'll be fine?(which is stupid when the neighbours moan) is this bike that finincky on start(never had this with the cbr400) is there a way or some handy tips to help?
when running its awsome and runs sweet its just the first time you start it??????

cheers

You really shouldn't need 5 - 6 mintutes of choke!! 30 seconds should be more than enough, especially in the summer... perhaps the carbs arn't setup correctly which is why its requiring so much choke...

I always start mine on the choke so it idles about 2000rpm , so as not to race a cold engine, and lower the choke to off as soon as it will run with out it on, which isnt long at all.

I always start mine full choke, no throttle and roll it off slowly shortly after that until it can idle on it's own without choke.

sounds like the carbs need a tune up.
Mine starts on a bit of choke , leave for a few mins and push the choke all the way in. Doesn't take 5 mins idelling at 5000rpm though!

Racing a cold engine wont' happen on choke.. this is a common misconception.

The 4-5000rpm you get on choke give a good high oil pressure when the oil is cold and allows it to reach the top-end.

Never run an engien thats not underload (in gear) over 10,000rpm though, the chance of something breaking goes up exponentially after 10k.

Once the bikes started the procedure should be to pull in the choke until the engine is around 2-3000 rpm and loose it alltogether when it will idle without choke.

As per my original post.. carbs / engine service (valve clearnances) and air-filter inspection. are due.
