Well they must have because they won't bloody well go back on!

No problem last time, but then I hadn't taken the rubbers completeley off, however this time, as a precaution I took them off and soakedd them in petrol while I was fannying around with the carb's, compresion test etc, they probably had too long a soak, as work commitments meant a few days went by before I tried again.

Gave them a little coating of red rubber grease too, but FFS, front ones in and the back are out by a long way, prise/lever with a screwdriver, nearly in and the bloody fronts pop out!

Patience, leave the bastards until tomorrow, could soaking them in petrol for a couple of days fucked them up?

Leaving them on the bike rubber greased and off for a beer or ten

That's just how they are, sadly. It doesn't get much easier, you just get better at being patient with them.

Next time I remove mine I'm going to try using RVF ones.

loosen the lower clips on the rubbers aswell as the top ones and it should slip in a bit easier

All of this matters not...you have an NC30 - a jewel of a bike and the like of which does not get built today.

Carbs are a bastard. I've taken 2 days to get them in...broom handles, friends to laugh about it, and even some hammer time.....

I now use RVF rubbers, some well learned technique and they slip in easier than the 4th punter of the night...

Get some silicone lube in a can, or some rubber grease and spray/smear it on the top of the inlet rubbers!
Put the front crabs in first, then I always notice the rear carb rubbers will get stuck on the lip of the carbs, I just wedge a small flat blade screwdriver in between as a shoe horn. I'll take some photos in a moment when I take mine off.

I have just had this exact same problem with my old GPX 250. Solution was leave the rubbers attatched to the carbs overnight (maybe longer?) so they stay at that size and can slip on and off easily. There are two ways i tried with both working for getting the rubbers onto the carbs in the first place. They are:

Clothes dryer. Get the air hot and throw them in for a minute or two. They come out soft but cool down quick so you have to be quick getting them on.

Boil them. For an hour i was told. I just threw them in a pot of boiling jug water for 10 minutes and they stayed softer a little longer than the dryer method. I would imagine boiling them on the stove for an hour would get them nice and soft for a decent amount of time.

I have heard soaking the rubbers in petrol isn't the best idea. Can't remember why though!

Could be worth noting i have never worked with the NC30 carbs (and hope i never have to) this is just from my experience with my twin cylinder 250. Could be a whole new kettle of fish on a 400.
