I bought a new 14T renthal gear for the NC... now I've not even ridden it yet, I'm still waiting for my mod2 test. However all the fairings are off and now would be the easiest time to fit the gear... should I try it standard first? Or just go ahed and fit it?

It will be used to ride to work every now and then which is through manchester so probably a fair bit of stop start and also for weekend thrashes. Not too arsed about losing a bit of top end long as it goes hard through the gears and pulls away nicely. Is 1st as much of a nightmare on std gearing as I've heard for this kind of riding?


Also, how involved is it to swap? I've got a haynes but it'd be useful to hear off someone who has actually done it on here.. I've got a chain adjuster spanner but no other 'special' tools.

Piece of piss to fit. Take off the sprocket cover. Loosen the sprocket bolt and your chain, then replace the sprocket. Only problem you may have is the sprocket bolt might be seized on. Nothing a bit of penetrating fluid and a breaker bar can't sort out though.

Also, will this send my speedo miles out? I know they over read anyway but will it be way over?

I think DrunkenMunkey posted a link to a site that works out your speed with different sprockets on. Try searching the V4 section for gearing or sprockets, it should turn it up.
Yes the chain is easy to adjust(if you have the right tools)

Just thinking about it, may not be the best idea. I also have a NC35 17 inch rear fitted. The speedo is going to be nowhere near is it!

I wouldn't worry to much, you can follow your mate at 30, 40, 50, and so on then make a mark and put stickers on. Simples

Keep in mind that you need to align the plastic speedo drive coupling on the sprocket cover with the sprocket bolt when re-seating the cover or the coupling might get broken. Your speedo & mileage will read approximately 15% higher with NC35 wheel & 14T sprocket.

I always thought it was the norm for your speedo to read about 10% over already? Is this 15% over plus the amount it's already out by?

I know what you mean about putting markings on but I've got a mph dial on the way, kinda defeats the object

15% + whatever the original error was. 10% for the gearing change + 5% for the 17" wheel.

Speedo's can read over by upto 10% but not under.. this doesn't mean all speedo's are off.

Best the get a friend with GPS speedo driving the side of you and mark certain speeds
