I was just going to 'whip the wheels off' & take 'em to get new tyres fitted. The bike is strung from the garage roof with the front wheel off, the rears up in the air but can't get the wheel off for love nor money.

I have tried belting random spokes with a bit of wood & hammer while turning the wheel, currently dousing the shaft/wheel hub with wd40 but so far no joy.........

Anything else to try???

I thought they were supposed to be Q/R wheels

remove split pin,
36mm socket and 24" knuckle/breaker bar, back brake on, and heave boyo,

its a 20 second job,

if the wheels stuck to the hub be prepared to get brutal they can sometimes get stuck on if they not removed frequently,

On my project '30 the wheel was stuck on solid, no amount of belting it with a rubber mallet would shift it, I then tried a very wide bladed flat head stubby screwdriver, it was just thin enough to fit in a gap between the rim and rub, and provided enough leverage to pop it off first time with very little effort :)

Please note, the wheels on the project are a bit chipped anyway, so I wasn't fussed about making another, this has potential to chip a little paint off, so do it at your own risk

Don't forget a little bit of grease or copper slip on the hub studs and mating faces (I mean a little, barely more than a smear to stop it flinging out and onto your disc or something!) will make it easier next time you need the wheel off

Cheers for the replies, it was certainly stuck solid.....
Wallloping each spoke with a heavy hammer & prece of wood (well several as they kept splitting), wd40 just beneath where the spacer fits, then retightening the nut, slackening & trying again.

A rubber mallet on the tyre just ain't enough.

New tyres filled & hub lubed to prevent it happening again
Now to change the front wheel bearings.

Don't you just hate the people that 'look after' their bikes by just cleaning them, not actually lubing things properly on reassembly

powder coated wheels will stick good and fast after being fitted if not "cleaned" up on the mating surface before refitting.

I was gonna ask if you'd taken the wheel nut off first

Yeah as mentioned get some copper grease in there on the studs and mating surfaces. Will come straight off in future then.

If you remove the axel spindle and put it in at the wrong angle so can catch it on the lip of the wheel and hammer it off.
