Hi all,
Has anyone ever had this problem of teh fork damper bolt spinning in the bottom of the fork?
The first fork went fine no problems, but this on it undid about 1/2 turn then stopped all the oil started dripping out and the cartridge just spins.
Is there a way i can hold the bottom of the cartridge?
I have taken the fork to the local bike shop and asked them to use the airgun on it and still no joy :(
Any advice much appreciated.

With the fork assembled and pressure applied to compress the spring and load the damper, the bolt may undo.
If not, look at the removed damper unit from the other fork leg.
You will see 2 slots that can be engaged either with a bar or even make up a 2 peg spanner to fit.

Hi Dave,
The other fork is back in the bike now, so cant see the other unit. I think i am going to go to teh plumbing centre and get some steel tube and make a slotted socket (after the moto gp)
Cheers

Before you do that, try to hold it with a lenght of flat bar, I used 25mm x 8mm,

Dave.

Then try 1" x 1" wood first, sharpened to a V.

I used a long metal rule, worked a treat

Sounds like the nut is turning within the damper, how far is it undone?.
Its a round nut, located with a staking/punched locator to stop it turning.
Depending if thread lock was used, and what strenght, try loading the nut with the damper.

Either lever the damper up, or if room, lever under the allen bolt head to maintain pressure between the nut and damper inner housing, whilst slowly turning the bolt.
It will be more luck than anything,

Dave.

Yer i think the thread has rounded as it is only a fraction out and spinning or the valve is spinning inside the cartridge. I have tapped some lengths of hacksaw blade between the cap head and fork to stop the bolt spinning and am gently drilling the head off. I can then use a stud extractor to get the rest of the thread out of the valve once i have the cartridge free.
