NC35 Upgrades....

Hi guys, i've been looking at K&N Air Filters & Ram air intakes for my NC35... i'm very interested in purchasing it but what benefits would be achieved if i was to install it & do i have to rejet my carbs aswell?


I currently have a full tyga exhaust system on my bike & it was dynoed @ 62.19HP

You will certainly have to rejet after either of these mods. The only advantage to a k&n filter (if you can still get them?) is that they're washable. The disadvantage is that it will put your jetting out and doesn't noticeably increase perfomance (IMO). Standard air filters flow very well.

Not sure what the ram air intake you refer to is. It will either screw your jetting up massively, or throw it out a fair bit depending on the kit. Genuine ram-air kits are a good mod for race bikes, not really useful on the road. I doubt it will have much effect on power under (at least!) 150 km/h, and will probably run worse than standard at low revs.

A better option, and cheaper, is to fit 2 short velocity stacks in place of the 2 standard long ones (move peak power slightly higher in the rev range), and fit replica hrc slide springs (richens up the lean midrange). Both are available from Rick Oliver in the UK.

Get it on a dyno and jetted to suit all of your mods. That's as far as I'd go on a roadbike, spend the rest on suspension, brakes and tyres! This is where the speed is...

It's hard to get big power from the V4's for decent cost. The more you tune the engine the more highly strung it will be, great for the track but detrimental for the road. As a road bike engine it's pretty good out of the factory.

Ah thanks Cammo,

I was referring to the Race Airboxs that tyga sells, I believe it looks like the replica HRC airbox lid

so you having an airbox would actually ruin the low end of the rvf as a road bike?

Ah, that airbox is nothing like ram air, and is a decent mod for a roadbike. At the best you might get a slightly improved throttle response because of the bigger volume. Doubtful whether you could feel an actual difference in response or power, but it sure does look nice!

I would still use a standard air filter with it....

That airbox in the link is actually a replica of the rvf hrc box, not the same as the normal +8% boxes they sell and I'd guess you have to hrc mod your carbs to get it to run right
