To those of you who are fitting newer rear shocks to your NCs from CBR, GSXR and maybe even R6...are you revalving these things or just leaving them as is? Also since the stroke is roughly double on the newer shock, how are you compensating for the added travel? Are you guys adding spacers to the shaft? Shortening the shaft? Or maybe using a longer bump stop?

No real reason to this, I'm just a little curious to hear how people are getting on with this popular mod and maybe also how much thought people put into it when they decide to go this route.

Ive fitted a CBR600RR rear shock to my No4 NC30 & tbh, compared to the 21 year old piece of crap that came off it & for the price i paid for a shock from a 3000 miles bike, its 3 times cheaper than getting the standard item rebuilt & its 14 years newer tech.
I know theres all the chat about the difference in the linkages & the stroke, etc, etc & i understand its not going to be 100% or even 75% correct for the NC30 but on the road, here in the UK, im pretty sure you'll never really notice & you'd have to do something pretty wrong for it not to be an improvement.

Ive been told to adjust it to half way on the main lower adjuster, by someone who has spent a bit of time messing with his & he said it feels nice & handles well but then again again each to their own & im sure other will have a difference in opinion.

But lets be honest, its whats £100 - £150 for a basic refresh on a standard item, £300 for a new basic hagon, £400+ for a good spec maxton etc & £1000+ for a top spec ohlins, or £30 - £75 for a CBR, R6 OR GSXR rear shock.

I would have liked to have gone for the 2CO R6 rear shock as it looks like a more quality item but maybe on the next 1.

that's some good insight. ok so from what you're saying...the factors of the stroke, valving, etc are not so drastic as to unsettle the bike under normal riding conditions?

No, it all seems ok but ive not really spoken to many people about it.

I've one ot fit eventually and I'll be having a proper tinker with it. Probably respring it, or use the 875lbs off the RS250 I use now...
