Mechnic just refused to work on my bike!

Had the bike booked in to have the fork seal done today. the mechanic took one look and said he won't do the work as there is some pitting on the stanchions.

I've had a look and the pitting looks minimal to me and right at the top of the stanchions. Is he being pedantic or is he right not to do them?

Whats the best option?

Buy another set of forks and have them re-chromed? (should i 'upgrade' from k forks to the later type at the same time?)
Buy new stantions? (Any recommendations on where from?)
wet and dry the pitting on my sanchions and just fit the new seals?

no headstock stand and a lack of confidence/competence dictates otherwise, sadly.

Anyway if he's right and the pitted area is just going to rip the seals open again, is there any point?

Come on man... it is like getting laid..daunting at first and satisfying once you get back out on the streets!!

You don't need a headstock stand as the bike can be rested on the sump on a car jack.

How bad is the pitting? Is it really bad and so needs sorting, or is it above the swept area of the forks? I know mine has a bit above the sealed area but it matters not to the function.

I've no idea what the extent of travel is on the forks. i thought these pits looked pretty high up and unlikely to be in the swept area?

there not that bad, the trick is if the pitting is like that its so go over them with W&D to some the surface out so they dont shread the seals but as you say there quite high up, put a cable tie around your fork stanchions and when you go out the cable tie will indicate the amount of damping your forks are using.

you can see my cable ties on my stanchions thats my max(ish) travel used
