Improving the sound and is this a standrad exhaust?

Just brought a 1990 nc30 and it's great however it does sound a bit like a sewing machine and I'd like to make it sound more fruity.
Any recommendations? Not tooooo loud as I don't want to upset the neighbours
Also this is what's on it now, is it the standard model?

That is bog standard indeed...
You can either chop that off..or buy a nice jap half system (see pornodog has one for sale (that sounds lovely)

Is a new half system simple to fit and do I need to do something with the fuelling if I change it?
Also noticed I can't spell standard!

standard uncut systems are hard to come by , dont chop the can off , buy a second hand half system or a standard cut sytem and wack a end can on , ( my 2p
