MOT and tax due in september , so i think this year ill not bother and will take the nc off the road for a complete strip and rebuild,, the motor has done 65k and i did the valves not too long ago , she runs ok with no nasty knocks or anything to worry about so the motor wont get much, if any work done on it at all, just a clean up, filter + oil change,

jobs i plan to do are ,,
complete strip to bare bones
powder coat satin black...
frame
swinger
subframe,
yokes
clock bracket
side stand
wheels in gloss black,
plus various small bits n bobs
forks strip and rebuild with rick'o's kit + new paint
all calipers, new seals and paint
rear shock refurb or maybe swap out for another type depending on budget at time,
carbs complete overhaul clean polish etc
(in discussions with a friend who runs a cable harness co who are building dashboard looms in the hope he can make me a whole new loom for the electrics )
all bearings replaced
and a general spit and polish of all parts (replace anything beyond repair ie my rads)

cosmetics..
i plan on getting the tyga rc45 style seat unit
tyga suzuka fairing and one piece lowers,
my friend owns prowrap.uk and will be covering all panels and tank in white carbon wrap and i will be hunting down brooky for the Am,Pm decals set then finished in a clear gloss wrap for protection, (personally i think she will look the dogs dangles)
all work will of course be snapped and posted to this thread along with skinned knuckles and a few swear words along the way , maybe some tears and laughter too.

so in a few months time work will commence on the biggest project i have undertaken myself , and i will no doubt for time to time call upon the wealth of knowledge on here for a little help and support
to be honest i cant wait to get stuck in but i shall keep her on the road till the mot due in september, then she will be SORN then work will begin..

yeah its my bike in the avatar , heres how she looks today,




lizardman the panels will be up for sale later on , its an aftermarket front end but fits quite well and paint is good
the seat unit is OE but the paint job is a bit crummy (i also have the OE front panels in the repsol scheme again its a bit crummy in the paint area and has some broken lugs in the usual places the reason why i bought a second set in the first place ,

Watch out when you get the frame & swing arm powder-coated, if you dont cover & / or mask certain areas, you'll spend hours & hours & hours, cleaning areas & stripping or sanding off powder-coat & risk damaging the powder-coat doing so.
Im building a powder-coated nc30 now & so is a mate, its been pretty hard going in both cases.

Also, satin black is nightmare, just ask steady.bob on here, it marks so easily - he has had his frame done twice, swing arm done, then went back for polishing & now its gone back to be re-done. In real life, its going to need pampering to stay nice.

Ive used a dark gloss green / grey colour & had basically the entire bike done, every part apart from a handfull of little bits. The gloss is very hard to mark & looks to bollox but each to their own, i would say you're going to be better off with a gloss colour if you intend to use the bike.

I think i spent 8 or 9 hours sorting the swing arm out & putting it back together when i got it back, so much you wouldnt even think of needs to be clean & bare for the swing arm hub to work correctly.

The frame has had to have lots of bits drilled out & cleaned up as well.

brilliant this is the type of input im needing , i am flexible in what i intend to do , and the bike will be used so somthing that will last without lookin pants after a few months will be what im aiming for , cheers for your advice im sure ill buzz you when the time comes for the trip to the coaters ,
can you tell me did you have your frame/parts blasted then taken to the coaters pre masked up ready or did they do the whole shebang for you ??

They did & do it all, shot blasting, bead blasting, powder-coating, wet spraying, 2pac, water based.

I was pretty nosey when it came to doing a whole bike but usually i just let them get on, as i have a lot of bikes & have a lot of stuff done on a regular basis.

I went to see it after it was bead blasted, as shot blasting would have been too harsh & then went back to look again when everything had been powder-coated, there were issues with some parts, so some bits had to be done twice as they didnt quite follow my instructions but they're very good.

I balls'd it up myself by not getting them to mask certain bits but thats how you learn for next time, i had my nc30 & stead.bobs nc30, all done @ the same time, so it was difficult to keep track of all the parts but they both came out really nice, only problem was with marks to the satin black on Robs stuff, the powder-coat is hard as nails but the satin finish suffers from surface damage / marks really easily.

had a bit of a result today
few months ago i moved house , i lived in a great house with a plus side of having an outbuilding ,an ideal workshop and attached to that a small garage perfect for rebuilding a bike in , the downside it was in the middle of nowhere , so the missus became a bit stir-crazy and wanted to move ,
i was quite gutted as im always pottering around and lost me workshop in the move, not happy at all, so we moved to a new-ish house, no garage and smaller garden etc etc,
so looks like im going to be building my bike in an 8x6ft shed instead if i can get the thing in there, tight squeeze im sure but better that than outside ,
the result i got today was that the house i moved to is less than 100yrds from a little industrial estate,it has a hand full of work units and while i was up there earlier having a look around low and behold , A POWDER COATERS , so i popped in to see the chap and had a little chat and look at some of the work he was doing, he was in the middle of coating some rims for a car (very orange)and had just done a frame for an old classic bike, the coatings were top notch , asked him about the frame and swinger i want doing and he said about £80 thats blasted and prepped and coated , which i thought was ok ,,, result top quality coatings less than 100yards away , he will be seeing a lot of me i thinks

That does sound like a result. Might have a walk down to my local industrial estate! That's at the end of my road too. Hmmm.

The rebuild begins , today i went for a last blat then wheeled her round to the back garden to set about the strip down ,
fairings off , radiators drained , oil draned , clocks removed, front downpipes and collector removed engine bolts loosened with the home made socket jobby, swinger lockwashers loosened and the big 46mm sprocket nut loose ready for rear caliper removal then the subframe,
tomorrow she will go up on stands for the forks out, swinger off, to the point its just the frame sat on the engine.
then the final stage of strip , carbs off etc
looking at the parts so far, radiators need binning as the bottom one was just hanging on the hoses as the bracket had corroded thru and the top bracket had come away from the radiator
most nuts/bolts will have to be replaced as it looks like most have been done/undone with the wrong size sockets and are butchered in one way or another .
its dawned on me that this will be a massive job of cleaning every nut bolt washer bracket , (looks nice when the fairings are on but under her clothes she is a slag, and a very dirty cow ,

day 2 of the stripdown , forks and races out , bottom race on the yoke was a bitch but came in the end, brakes removed and various bits and bobs then the rear downpipes after some swearing and a cuppa tea,
the clouds came followed by rain so that stopped play for the day , wire wheel went on the grinder for some indoor activities, and clean up of some bolts and bits
