Carb Questions

Hello chaps. I'm back with my third NC30. I just can't seem to keep hold of them! This one is an almost UK-Spec one (I'm still figuring out what is and what isn't) that I bought from ChrisJa2, and it came with what I think is a stock NC35 exhaust system and NC35 carbs. I've heard of people running this sort of setup before due to NC35 carbs having a concave end to the slide giving better airflow at full throttle (although I might have just made that up), but I'm not really sure how to go about obtaining a good setting. My main problem is it displays the classic mid-range dip around 5-6k revs. Should I do the carb mod with an extra 0.5mm shim etc.? I've also read about the programmable CDIs that Rick O sells and that the improved map is meant to help combat this compromise in the original factory one. Should I fit one of these, stick with the NC35 carbs and twiddle them until they work, or just go back to stock NC30 carbs. I haven't had a chance to take the carbs off, so I'm unsure what the settings are at the moment. As you can probably tell, I'm way out of my depth here, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Luke

Have a read of cammo's excellent "how to" guide and all your carb questions will be answered.

I wouldn't add the 0.5m extra washer to start with as this will richen the mixture all the way through the revs not just 5-6k.
I think you woudl be better using the HRC spec slide springs first, fairly cheap compared to a new CDI

this will also give you a very good understanding of the carbs.

NC35 carbs are great and can be made to work lovely on the NC30 so stick with them.
As others have said, get it setup standard and go from there.

Cheers fellas. I wasn't sure if there was anything special to take into consideration seeing as it's technically the wrong set of carbs on the bike, or if I could treat them the same as NC30 carbs. Is it just the slide that's different, then. I'll have a thumb through Cammo's guide and get back to you if I still can't get my head around it. Thanks again.

They are different carbs so treat them as NC35 carbs, 108 jets as standard for example.
I fitted some aeons ago and I reckon you get a better response and pickup.

Can anyone tell me what the standard float heights should be on NC35 carbs? After a bit of hunting, I've found that the pilot jets should be set to 13/8ths turns out and as CMSMJ1 said, the main jets should be 108 (front and rear I assume). Also, is there a situation similar to the NC30 carbs where there are different slide needles and emulsion tubes front and rear?
