Due to ridiculous petol prices and my meagre pension I have no choice but to try and maximise the number of mpg I get to the gallon.
I bought it off ebay as a basket case and spent some time getting it going and making it reasonably presentable I dont go mad on it well not all the time and have averaged around the 60/65mpg mark but thought I could do better.
I tried riding at a steady 50mph and managed to return 76mpg
I usually ride with the older generation and about the 50-60mph average speed I dont need rapid acceleration so thought I would up the gearing.
I removed the front 15t front and 39t rear and replaced them with 16t front and 36t rear I thought it would make a lot of difference to the performance but if I want to make progress I just have to use the lower 4 gears.
I went on a small 70 mile run today and used just 3.69 ltrs or near enough 86mpg
I have managed to fit luggage racks and can now fit nonfango top and side panniers and so will use it to go camping happy days.

I have a CB-1. On steady runs I get a little over 50mpg (UK gallons) and on an average tank I see about 48mpg.
Then again I am 27, so I expect my "steady" riding style is somewhat different to yours. I know for a fact I don't have the patience to burn a whole tank at 50mph!

I ride an NC31 and average about 10 miles per litre or 45 mpg. On a longer run I think I could easily up it to 50-60 mpg. Mine is mostly used round town as I have two other, bigger, bikes for long distance use.

I have a NC31 1994 model and I average 21klm's per litre and I don't idle around, i do race off at the lights but I do run 95 -98 octane fuel in my bike. It may cost a bit more, but I think it is worth it. Is it better to go to a larger front sprocket or a smaller rear sprocket. ed

I have a 16tooth front sprocket on and a 39tooth rear.
As I said I am not to bothered about rapid acceleration however it's still quite quick in first, second , third and fourth gears.
It is only pulling 4000revs at 100kph I have just returned from a couple of days camping and touring around Langholm in beautiful weather I last filled up in Lockerbie on Saturday 2nd of July reset the trip rode up to Wanlockhead and back down through the Mennock pass stunning scenery I filled up again when I returned home 292km for just 9.6 litres or 86.9 miles per gallon thats with three panniers and the tent.

I run standard unleaded in mine and get about 5 litres/100 km (about the same as my Suzuki Ignis car). The bike is stock standard except for the Yoshimura exhaust system as far as I know.

I've just finished a frugal week on mine, just to see what I could get out of it. I usually been it up to the power band and keep it there for my whole commute!

So, full tank, gentle acceleration and up the gears early. I've managed about 60/65mpg whilst slicing through traffic on the A406 every morning. I now get an extra 5 journeys (45 miles!) out of the tank by being sensible!

I think once a week if it's nice I'll open it up and nail it, just to keep me sane.

I've also got a mates Varadero XL125 in for a service at the moment, he reckons he gets 90mpg without trying....
