Hey folks. Some of you know that i have the loverly Motorhead bike, but i also have another love in my life.
I decided quite some time ago that i was going to build myself a bike from scratch, but it wasn't originally going to be another nc30.
I fell in love with the motorhead bike and thought it'd be amazing to have another one that i could race. So i got to it.
I'm quite a bit through the project now and cant be bothered to re-write my whole build story. So if you're interested you can see the whole thing over at
http://www.nc30oc.com.
Or you could just click this one to take you directly to page no.1

Hope you enjoy reading about it as much as i've had fun building what i've made so far!

Loving your enthusiasm but you don't have an engine yet and so I have to agree with forcev4, you're going at it about-face. Always start with the engine, put the frame on it, then rear suspension and wheel, then wiring, then forks, then tank and bodywork last of all.
Also I can't decide who's more mental, you for building a bike in your flat or your Gf for letting you?!

hehe yeah i am a bit mental but shh...
Sourced my engine, but it might take me some time to get it up to Glasgow lol.
Also need to get all my rads, rad hoses, brake lines, tyres, Exhaust system, CDI, got a few other things that i need sourced too.
SO! not too far to go.
As for doing it the wrong way, yeah i accept that i should have done things differently. But this is the first time i've ever build a bike, so i'll know how to do it better next time. Although the mrs assures me the next time we will have a house with a garage so there isn't bike parts hiding in the bedroom, hallway and living room lol.
Hope you had a fun read :D

This might be a stupid question - but has anyone actually weighed the nc23 3-spoke "lightweight" front wheel? It's often touted to be lighter, but without a like-for-like weigh-in I wouldn't take it as given just due to the lower spoke count.
Here are some measurements I took while choosing a setup for my CB-1:
VTR1000F disc (gold centred
as shown) = 1.28kg each
CBR400 OE disc (the ones with many lotses of drillings) = 1.14kg each
CBR400 front wheel assembly (6-spoke) fitted with: 120/60-17 Michelin Pilot sport, CBR900 axle, bolt and spacers (10mm longer = heavier),
pair of VTR 296mm x 5mm thick discs = 11.10kg
CB-1 front wheel assembly (3-spoke) with 110/80-17 Avon Roadrider, CB-1 axle and spacers, CB-1 310mm x 6mm thick
single disc = 11.33kg.
I have since got a decent pair of CBR400 OE discs and painted them gold. So the assembly now weighs 10.82kg, which is a whopping 500g of
unsprung, rotating mass lighter than the original 3-spoke single disc front wheel. That said the CB-1 was never sold as a performance machine, so it's quite possible the wheels were just lower quality and thus heavier than those on an nc23. Also the 110/80-17 front Avon was a bias ply tyre, so probably a bit heavier.
In any case, I was really quite surprised by the numbers on my little digi luggage scales!
