Hi Everyone,

My name is Adrian and I picked up an NC30 on Saturday. I am from Melbourne in Australia.

It is an 89 Model I think as it has the single adjuster forks and crappy shock.

I have been riding track days for a while and want to get started in racing, I am an OK rider but want to improve my riding skills which is why I got a 400.

I would like to replace the shock with something off a later model bike a honda 600-1000, preferably a showa one, also would like to get the forks a bit more adjustable and set up.

I have sent Rick Oliver an email about the forks, but have a question about the shock

What other shocks can I replace the standard one with minimal modification, ie 2004 CBR600RR, 2009 Suzuki something or other.

Your help is appreciated.

The late model suzuki gsx-r shocks seem to be the easiest to fit. You may need to fit a smaller battery for the remote res to fit in, but not much more to it. Even in standard form it'll be plenty better than a 20+ year old vfr shock. You can pick them up off US ebay for about $100 landed if you look around.

Good call looking into the Rick O fork upgrade.

I went and had a look at room around the top mounting point and it appeared as if the 2005 one woudl fit better as the reservoir was above the mounting point. So I got that one.

Fingers crossed it works!!!

As far as I know you need a 2006 or 2007 600 or 750 shock to fit the NC. All other model\year shocks are different in some way so weather there fit or not I don't know but I do know the 2005 model is a massively different bike to the k6 and 7.

I decided to buy both and see which one fits when it gets here, the postage was as much as each shock so combining them was a no brainer.

I will let you know how they fit.

How does a GSXR shock affect the bike?
Does it raise/lower it?
I am assuming its quite a bit stiffer?
Fully adjustable?

Wouldn't want to buy one and find it totally screws up the handling!

They're the same length as the nc shock. The spring rate is actually lighter than standard nc30 but you could always buy a heavier spring (or try and fit the NC spring), the valving will also be out because of the lower link arrangement. They're not adjustable for ride height.

Some on here have raced on them, so they can't be half bad. The main benefit is that they're newer, and a (much) cheaper alternative to an aftermarket shock.

I'm going to fit one to my roadbike next summer I think....

Your need a tappered spring to replace the soft standard gsxr one, your see what I mean when they arrive, thinner at the top and wider at the bottom. About 850lbs depending on your weight

So the early shocks k4/k5 wont fit?
