I thought they were all prefixed NC23, the one I have pulled apart is prefixed NC29.

Or am I getting confused with frame numbers?

CBR400RR-L 1990-91 NC23E 1300001 TO 1310636

CBR400RR-N 1992-93 NC23E-14200001 ON

CBR400RR-R 1994- ON NC23E-1500001 ON

the 1994 engine are the better they have high conpression pistons but the carb rubber's are restircted (smaller inners) so bin them

Hmmmmm interesting, I have no idea what age the engine is but it's in remarkable condition you can still clearly see the hatching marks in the cylinders.

The high compression pistons of which you speak are the same as the RVF pistons, haven't had chance to compare the crowns with the ones I have yet but at a glance they are different.

Did any of these ever sell in the states? I have a vague idea that the engine numbers have to start the same as the chassis numbers there?

? pass hope its good tho, im doing a engine now RR-L do the rvf pistons go in with out mods? what are the best mods on the 29 engine

very interesting, does the numbering follow the same convention for a 29 model, such as 1300, 1400, 1500.. Does it look like original Honda stamping? Wonders if it changed in the rr2?

BTW no need to junk the rubbers marcus, just pull the inner alloy restrictors out with a pair of pliers, but uness new I would imagine most are pulled out now.

To be honest Marcus I thought the same until I bought a new rubber from David Silver for my 94 bike and seen the restictor inside. Someone had taped the original ones to my bike and I aways assumed they were the 33bhp washers until then, and then the penny dropped.

Looks pukka to me, like I said I don't know the age of the engine and I know the last of them had RVF pistons so when I pull the other engine to bits I can compare the crowns.

Maybe it's one of the last batch...
