I posted a similar thread a few days ago, just finished putting my new alternator on... it's an M20x1.5 RH threaded bolt.

My local bike shop had one in stock (some universal multi-tool) for £12, I got a local fasteners to supply me a bolt for £3.00

tightened it up and three sharp blows with a socket bar / hammer and the flywheel just dropped off :)

I can't hold the bike still to undo the the bolt though which is why I asked if there a tool to hold generator wheel

I had the socket / extension bar on the middle bolt and shocked it off

Sounds like a plan.
I'll get my impact driver on the case then. Maybe with rider on the bike and the brakes on it will be enough.

See the Yamaha has the Gen coils housed in the engine cover so there's no need for all this.

Tell me about it... my XBR's flywheel is inverted the recess in on the outside, much easier to take the coils out!

You have a new set of windings to put it? I got mine from electrex world and it came the next day, seems to be working fine now!

Been there myself and it is frustrating, but once it's sorted you shouldn't have any more electrical gremlins. :)

hmmm the tools might not be needed in the end. I worked out how to use my multimeter and tested the alternator that way. readings between each 3 wires read less than 1 ohms so according the Haynes that should be ok.

please tell me it's fine
