Hey guys im having a problem with my vfr, basicly before i bought the bike i went over to the blokes house and had a good look over it. The bike started quite easily had been standing for about 6 weeks, calipers had just been overhauled with new pads, fork seals done, air filter changed, oil and oil filter changed and had a new beowolf can put on. I asked if the carbs had been rejetted he said it didnt need it as the vfr's run quite lean anyway.

So i thought ok looks pretty nice he offered to take me for a whizz as pillion was pretty fun very quick compared to the 125 too, engine was pulling well through the revs and didnt have any problems for a good 20-30 min ride, so i went home thought it through and decided to go for it got the bike for 1450 with 47000km on the clock.

Got the bike and i went for a ride was sound for about 20km. Then it started loosing power and spluttering around untill it eventually stalled couldnt start it up for the life of me tried bump starting, checked the fuel but nothing luckily i was pretty close to home so i pushed it back.

At the weekend i took it apart checked the plugs they seemed fine compared to the pictures in the haynes manual had a very slight amount of oil on them but not soaked, managed to get it started again but as soon as i pulled away and got to about 7k revs it started missfiring so got the honda garage to have a look they said it was a wiring fault and it was sorted the only other fault they could find was the headstock bearings so got it all replaced.

Got the bike back today took it for a quick ride got about 5 miles down the road and, oh shit same thing again no power turned round i got about half way back at about 30 mph then stalled again right next to the pub so could have been worse stopped and had a drink let it cool right down still no luck, pushed the 2 and a half miles home and right outside my flat bike fires up ok on the choke took it round the block and its pulling nicely get it right up to the redline no problems. So i havent got a clue whats wrong with it was hoping someone had some answers? oh and sorry for the long post didnt want to miss something that could be important out.

Welcome to the forum, this question is asked by most new people just like I did last year, you will have to get to know your bike a little, get the tank off and fully inspect all the fuel pipe and replace as needed, there is a little pipe running from the fuel tap that connects to the inlet of one of the cylinders #3 remove this ppipe and replace it from a chap called Rick Oliver, search his name and see what it brings up.

Thanks, i had a look at the pipe last time i had the bike apart and it looked ok didnt check it right down to where its connected to the cylinder though so i will investigate tomorow, all the fuel hoses did look pretty new to be fair but ill have a look at rick olivers list of spares and get some new hoses just to be on the safe side. thanks for the quick reply btw.

You will be better off requesting a fuel tap vacuum hose off of Rick O as yours might look ok but these pipes have a habit of collapsing when warm due to the material becoming soft and warm.

I would still kick off at Honda for being a bunch of cnuts so get your arse down there and ask for a refund making sure that they don't touch it again.

the NC30 does not have a fuel pump and therefore gets its fuel from a vacum created by the carbs. this is MASSIVELY important and frequently problematic.

Also worth checking the battery for a charge, these bikes are also prone to bad regulators/rectifiers and can cook batteries.

sounds more like a fuel tank breather issue.

next time it cuts out, lift the filler cap, if you hear air rush in, or its starts once the lids been lifted then check the breather on top of the tank, but more likely some nugget has trapped the breather pipe between the frame and tank doing a half arsed job routing it.
seen it a few times, bike starts and goes fine for a few miles then cuts out like out of fuel, only to start again after a short period being stood.

Right im definatly replacing the fuel vacum hose then, and the tank breather hose only goes through a ring on the screen brace and rests beside the rad im hoping it isnt this otherwise im gunna feel a right tit if its sposed to be attached to something else lol. And i did ask the honda garage if they thought it was the reg/rec and they said they checked it and it wasnt, but they also said the 'wiring fault' was fixed so i dont really trust them, gunna give them a call and ask for a refund. Got the bike fired up again this morning and rode for about a mile and everything seems fine had to leave it on the choke till the engine warmed right up to about 90C is this normal or is something fishy going on there aswell?

my normal running temperature is about 90 too. As for the problem you're having..i had both my reg/rectifier and the vacume hose go on me (once in the middle of a REALLY busy round about :'( ). They both have similar symtoms to what you're saying. so get those checked first. I had a loose wire going into the plug that goes into the reg/rectifier. So have a look about there for loose wires.
