Right this might be a daft question but I was out on my nc35 tonight and when accelerating very hard I hit a false neutral between 5th& 6th, my gear linkage really could do with adjusting because the foot lever is a little high and sometimes I also hit neutral when shifting to second. So my question is is it normal that there is a neutral between 5th & 6th as I can't find it when riding normally?

It happened to me a couple times down the back straight at Snetterton last month. Don't worry about it, it's normal.

Doesn't sound great to me!

Check also that the gear linkage is fitted correctly on the spline. There's a small dot stamped into each, they should line up.

I've had no9 jumping out of 5th before and the cure, for me, was putting it in race shift pattern and making sure i got the gear well in.

I assume you are caning it when you are missing this gear? Might be something as simple as user error - not quite giving it a positive change as you are concentrating on going fast

They should not do it, but old gearboxes have taken a beating for sure.

When I bought the bike the rearsets were aftermarket, when I fitted the proper on the rod and fittings were slightly different so now the gear lever is a little high really so when shifting up it sometimes won't be as positive as maybe it should be , I just didn't think it would be possible to hit a neutral between the 2 gears. I will try and sort out the linkage and keep my fingers crossed!

adjust the lever first, i had the same prob on my nc30 between 1st and second gear which got worse when i got some new boots and found it harder to change gear, the only time it did in higher gears was on the race track at high revs, when youve adjusted the lever foot rest, if its still there check the clutch cable for adjustment or see if youve got a bad tight spot in the chain, ie check one thing at a time , ive ended up changing the gearbox and clutch and still dont know if the problem is solved as the bike is still in bits after a year

Thanks for your advice lee, i think it will be just the lever position, and it only did it under hard acceleration, i will keep you all updated after my next ride if i manage to adjust the gear lever.
