NC30 fork upgrades

Has anyone fitted CBR600RR forks to an NC30? Would I need to use the front wheel aswell?

Yes they can be fitted but im pretty sure your need the cbr wheel as the NC discs wont fit or there the wrong size.

Thanks for the reply. So I would need forks, brakes and wheel. Will they slide right into my tripple clamps? Is there any other reasonable upgrades. My forks now nosedive like crazy and my preload adj. is seized up on one side. Parts for the VFR is scarce in Canada.

Your need the yokes aswell and probably have the press the NC30 stem into the CBR yokes, from then it should be straight forward.
Personally if your not bothered about having USD forks upgrade your standard ones, kits available from rick oliver inc fancy new adjusters. Later type 30 forks can be made more than good enough for most people

What does the RO include and how does it change the feeling on the front end?

uprated springs new preload spacers a litre of race spec suspension fluid and clear instructions inc a measuring syringe for accurate setting of the air gap probably the best value upgrade for the money on these bikes .

Hi All,
I just bought a 400 and hoping to make it reliable and safe before I give it what for...
It is an 89, I am going to put a GSXR shock on the rear and looking for advice on the front please.
I have the early type forks, I sent an email to Rick Oliver on Friday and again Monday, but I am a little impatient.
Will his kit make my forks good and adjustable or atleast near the mark or do I need to replace the forks for later ones or something else?
I plan to use the bike to improve my riding solely at the track and plan on leaning on the front a fair bit to improve corner entry and also mid corner speed. There will be trail braking and I plan to push the front gradually until it lets go and then hopefully pick it up and then back it off a tad after I know what I can do.
Any help is appreciated.

You could do worse than 96-7 CBR900 forks, that way you can use your own wheel and discs too. They have full 3-way adjustment which is nice (92-95 forks are less adjustable but also work). The shopping list would be: cbr forks, spindle + spacers, yokes (92-5 look meatier with slab styling, 96-7 more refined all are same dimensions), and clip-ons. I have a spare pair of clip-ons but am in UK. You could use lots of different brake solutions, the best are cbr600rr 03-4, best value probably cbr900 00-3, cheapest VTR1000F or early CBR900. Always use the matching master cylinder. Not sure how you can fit the nc's mudguard, but should be possible - here is a pic with my nc27 mudguard fitted on lightly modified cbr hardware.

Dude..seriously? Do you ride on the track now? If you do, then you need to take the ike and ride it on the track as it stands. If you don;t already ride on the track..then stop thinking you are going to be pushing the front, leaving darkies and then catching it on your knee..
start at the start...then see what you think. The deep end is not the best place to be

Hello mate, yes I do ride at the track. I am not a tossa, I am not going to come onto some internet forum and say how good I am. I said I was going to push the front and that is what I will do.
I will be at the track on May 29, in the meantime I thought I would come on here and learn as much about the bike as possible, by those who have the expierence. What the stock setup is capable of and what are it's limitations, then areas and possibilites to improve on them.
This purpose of this bike is not to break records it is to improve me as a rider. As long as it is Safe, Reliable and predictable with the capacity to lean on the front then that is all I am after. I am not trying to get the fastest possible 400 with 30mm front end and ttx rear.
Although I have already got a another shock, I will ride the bike as is for a baseline, then between sessions swap the shocks and feel the difference. Sags etc will be set prior for both shocks at home so it is just a matter of puling one out and another in.
I was hoping to understand the front a little more, the putt the caps off mine and see if it indeed has the standard setup or has already been modified. If so by understanding how they are stock I can then see how it has been modified.
Before I bought mine I rode a mates and it was fun, was overtaking much bigger bikes (obvisouly slower riders) and it was a hoot.
There seems to be plenty of reference to Rick Oliver, I am waiting paitently for him to return my email I understand he also works and this is somewhat of a hobby for him so there is no pressure on him to get back to me yesterday.
But I would like to know if the early type forks can be made to be A- Adjustable by more than rebound (I think) and B- What needs to be done to them to give greater feel at the front.
IF they are not able to be made adjustable then I am happy to change preload spacers in lieu of having a preload adjuster, but would prefer not to change shimstacks for comp. My preference is to be able to tune the front so I feel that it is predictable.
