Hi, my fork seals need doing. Can anyone point me in the direction of a 'walk through' guide for this? Got a
Haynes manual on its way to me but personal experience from those who have done it always speaks more volumes than a book!

Just been looking at David silver spares to order the parts but not sure if i can just get away with replacing the seals or if i need to replace the bushes and retaining clips as well?

In terms of fork oil, i was going to go for a litre of silkolene 10w. Sound about right?

finally, what's the best way to remove the forks without the bike falling over!? Will it be ok on the side stand or will it do a nose dive as soon as I take the front wheel off!?

hi mate,

in my opinion, if your gunna change the seals you may aswel refurb the lot. others may disagree....

you ll need to hoist the front end up too mate cos yup, will nose dive on the side stand.

im just in the middle of doing mine , look for some other threads related to this.....a fella posted a similar post the other day and there are a few walk through(rought guides) on there.

rachet straps from the ceiling,

a jack under the engine with pipes removed, or an axel stand,

Ceiling isn't an option as i'm doing this on my drive.

i have a trolley jack and 4 axle stands but not confident that i'll be able to balance the bike properly.

Think i may just have to bite the bullet and put it into the local bike shop, unless i can hire a headstock stand from somewhere?

could run a 10mm dia rod through the front lower UNUSED engine mount bolts and place them on axel stands?

and do the same though the swingarm/rear engine mount bolt tunnel and again use to axel stands if you dont have a rear paddock stand.

youll just need a lift to get it up.

Don't suppose you can point out the location of these points on an image for me? i'm still quite new to the bike so haven't got used to is anatomy just yet!

i put red circles round them for you, 8-10mm rod if i remember rightly

carjack with piece of wood under pipes. Axle stands under footpeg mounts.

if you get yourself a rear paddock(which is a must anyways if you own one of these) then as said, 2 axel jacks with a piece of wood running through the bike .....similar to this.....
