I'm just putting the clean screen on my nosecone and i thought, while it's off i'll replace that god awful yellow insulation tape somone has put over the indicators... after taking it off the indicators have 3 wires for some reason, and somone has cut one wire and spliced another one together, maybe swapping one of the wires over?

Anyone elses have 3 pin plug? Any ideas what the 3rd wire is for? Thanks in advance

p.s. I discovered the little owners manual tucked away inside the bike if anyone wants any scans of it, its japanese obv but i bet their hard to come by.

nevermind, just followed the wiring diagram in the back of the book, the wires that have been cut (if my japanese is right) are running lights.

I'm guessing that the indicators run dim when the lights are switched on if this wire is connected?

If somone could confirm that tho, will save me soldering it back together :D

The indicators double as side lights on the 24.

I had loads of problems with my MOT because of this.

Orange running lights are illegal in the UK so the last owner had snipped the wires to the indicators.
when I went for the MOT the tester said I had no side light and a switch was fitted for one.

In the end I had to drill the bottom of the headlight and fit a push in bulb to shut him up !

Yep, they are running lights for the Japenese home market... only found this out on the way back home from buying mine, didnt bother checking the lights as it had a day-old MOT?? The Missus drove down with me (needed to pick the paddock stand up, plus there were tools in the car if I needed them... ;) )

We stopped for a break in a layby and she said the righthand indicator was permenently on?? Strange! Saw the 3 wires and guessed at some sort of sidelight arrangement (think The Fast and the Furious - Tokyo Drift) Hmmmm....

Didnt want to drill the headlight and fit a sidelight grommet in case it all Went Very Wrong or screwed the headlight beam up? Chances were the one place I put it would be an important one...

A little thinking came up with this:

Is an LED numberplate light for bikes soldered into the sidelight live feed and earth off the indicator?? Low draw rate plus the two side bulbs are angled at 45 deg. so it can be seen from the side as well?? Weatherproof & quite bright, def gets you seen.... :D

Ah yeah.. any idea if it'll pass MOT with it as standard (ie.. indicators as sidelights?) since you mention your bike had an MOT with it like that...

I dont know to be honest?? More than likely depends on the person doing the MOT and what mood they are in?? (Think along the lines of a borderline-loud race can and you get the idea... :D )

I would provisionally say no - the Police would probably have a sense-of-humour failure anyways...

How bizarre...is there a stub for a third wire on the indicator?? I wouldnt have thought there would be an indentical fitting indicator with only two wires, the NC24 being only meant for the Jap home market??
