hi guys im new here, just bought a fzr 400 1wg 1986 e reg, im after the two exup cables can anybody tell me where i can get them from? would appreciate any help. kind regards Arron.

If it's an '86 I don't think it should have an EXUP fitted. The 2TK (1987) has the EXUP, and following bikes.

If it is an EXUP and you need the cables, Fowlers can get them.

I thought the price was expensive, although I couldn't find anywhere else to get them from. I decided to repair the ones I'd got. The outers were fine, but the end fitting had snapped off. I got some cable with the same strand number and size from a push bike shop (19 strand/1.6mm DIA), made some stainless end fittings, and welded them on. Works fine so far.

If it's an 86 model it should be a Genesis and a non exup model.

when you say welded, do you mean soldered on or actually welded on,

i used to keep a couple of solderless nipples under my seat with some cable to bodge a temp repair to get me home but that was along time ago on old brit bikes or on early 80s honda 750/4s and the like, ain't much room on a tj for spares and to be honest iv'e never needed them,
now the bugger will breakdown

I was going to solder some on but the cable was stainless steel. I made the end fittings from some offcuts of stainless and welded them on with our tig welder. I made 8 end fittings and used one, as a test, with a bit of the new cable to see how secure it was. I couldn't break it with loads of pulling so decided to tackle the proper cables.

The new inners came with an end fitting attached to one end. Unfortunately this was the incorrect size. I cut it off and replaced it with one I'd made.

Total cost for both cables......£6 (and a bit of time)

I needed new EXUP cables aswell as mine had frayed on the 3TJ, just to let you know, i nicked your idea of using push bike cables, and it worked perfectly! thanks a bunch

I used some pushbike inner on my 3en1 when it frayed, and just used an adjustable nipple on the end. You cant beat adjusting nipples!
