NC24 rear spring removal - Help needed please

As some of you may be aware im currently undertaking the NC24 - CBR600RR rear shock conversion and its not going too well at the moment.

Anyway i need help on how to remove the rear spring from the shock. I have it all compressed but i cannot see how it comes apart.

The CBR600RR shock was easy to disassemble.

Any help would be appreciated

Regards

Richard

Wont shortening the spring buggar the shock up?

You'll have the dampening rod in a more compressed position which will make the bike very stiff?

Well i dont know what to do then. I have a CBR600RR Shock that is too long and i wanted to see how much difference in length the springs were.

Also if i want a new spring making up via my dads contacts i need both springs load testing for the spring rate

Regards

Richard

I dont' know it if will or not.

I shouldn't imagine you'll need the springs tested for spring-rate, there stock springs so information should be fairly easy to get

Do you know how to get the spring off the NC24 shock?

There is a wire clip round the inner part which sits in a small recess which stops the top part from coming off. you need to compress the spring well down to get at it. Remove it and gently release the tension on the spring. Be very very careful as it could take your head off if it slips, If I remember right I had to compress the whole thing using the tailstock of a lathe and made clips (shown below) to hold the spring tensioned then released the pressure on the lathe tailstock. Sorry I did'nt take pics at the time.
But as you have already tensioned the spring it should be easy to get at it, you may need to tap the top collar down a bit to clear the clip.
to replace it is just the reverse.

HI,

Thanks for that reply.

I have the spring compressed but cannot see this wire clip.

At the bottom i can see a 21mm nut but you need to stop the shock shaft spinning to undo this i think from looking at it.

The top i cannot see nothing either

Scenario:
you use a shorter spring than usual on the CBR600 shock. This generally works fine except the one time you clear a humpback bridge at speed, get a bit of air, the shock reaches zero compression and then comes down with a big bang, potentially / probably with the spring out of line and causes some pretty impressive damage.

Just a thought.

Scenario: NC24 to CBR600RR mod is total BULL!!! NO ONE ATTEMPT THIS PLEASE AS YOU WILL WASTE YOUR MONEY, TIME AND EFFORT TO FIND IT DONT WORK!!!

The Shock needs to be compressed a full 35mm extra for it to fit into place and if you did get air it would hit the exhaust before getting to zero compression.

Did you mod the bottom linkage at all?

Is your exhaust NC21 or NC24 exhaust?
