hi all

just thought i would kill two birds with one stone , as im new to the forum but my name is sam and im from norwich and picked my first nc30 , 1990, up the other week which im well happy with

but over the weekend i thought i would check the valve clearance , and found that i will need to change around 12 of my shims ,

ive worked out what shims i need but was wondering if the method i used was correct , here is the way i worked them out ,

just for example
valve clearance was 0.07 when it needs to be around 0.24 , and the shim was 2.22 , so am i right to think i would need a shim of 2.05 , to then have a clearance of 0.24

and who / were is the best place to get the shims from

And yep that is correct.

If your gap is too small you need a thinner shim.

The shim wouldnt be 2.22 though as they go in up .5 so it would have been a 2.25 or a 2.20 depending on your caliper.

Shims also do wear buy very marginally.

and i phoned rick today / super nice chap / and he pointed out that i had measured the valve gaps with a metric filler and not a imperial ones , so off i go again to remeasure them all again , all good fun
