Does anyone know what other bikes in the yamaha range have calipers with an 83mm bolt spacing???

I have an issue with the calipers on my 3tj fornt end , in that they are donald-ducked and I really need replacements.

the 83mm seems to be very rare - everything else seems to be 100mm.

I dont really want to fit adaptors if I can help it, so what else has 83mm bolt-spacing???

there isnt really anything thats a straght bolt on.how bad are the calipers,are they beyond saving.im sure you can still get the 3tj caliper pistons if theyre scroted.if theyre really fecked you could get another set of 3tj calipers off e-bay or you can fit tockico gsxr600k3 calipers with some nk racing caliper hangers,theyre not too pricey i paid 60 or 70 quid for mine from nk racing.

TZR250 3MA and 3XV, FZR250R 3LN, R1-Z (250cc stroker) all use the same calipers. There are also some Triumph calipers that fit-

i stand corrected but bear in mind that most of the yam calipers will 15 years or more older so finding a good set may be tricky-the triumph ones might be a good upgrade though

Try not to think of the calipers on there own, think of it as the brake system.

First thing is to check it all for any weeps and if your using rubber hoses change them for braided steel. If you've already got braided then just check they look ok - alloy fittings usually red and blue are a no no on a road bike. Now check the disks - see how much of a lip there is on them, if your disks are worn you'll get longer travel at the lever.
Look at the pads, take the calipers off the forks take the pads out and clean it all up, if the pads are low replace them.
Look at the master cylinder where the lever pushes into it, there should be a dust seal there. carefully move it and if there's any fluid or dampness you need to replace the seals.
The final thing is the change the fluid, you should do it every year (actually it's every 2 but fluid is cheap) or if you see it change colour in the reservior.

he 3TJ calipers aren't that bad but they need to be clean, the disks have to be in good condition too.

my 3tj calipers have been previously taken apart by a ham-fisted gorilla!!

5 of the pistons are so badly marked by mole-grips Im not happy using them, and one of the calipers appears to have helicoils where the mounting bolts attach.

Im purchasing some triumph ones and will report back on how they fit!

plus on how easy it is to remove the triumph logo!!

Please don't buy anything on my say so, I haven't tried them and was just passing on what I found from a quick google! Your mileage may vary, etc...

I have to say I'd be interested in the outcome but remember it might not be so simple as a bolt on.
The Daytona 955 used bigger discs and different forks so it might be the caliper sits at a different angle which in turn might be the pad won't sit on the disc properly. You'll also need to get some idea of the master cylinder ratio.

But then again ..... you can always sell them on if they don't fit.

Fzr600 1989(only) ran 83mm calipers I think. They only have 2 pistons per caliper mind ;o)
