Whilst having the forks off to replace the seals, I thought I would use the opportunity clean the front end
of grunge, also trace a small oil leak, noticeable by the oil stain on the garage floor,
Anyway It appears to come from the seal between the rocker cover and the head.

Is it just a case of whipping off the rocker cover giving it a clean,then reseating the rubber gasket with a liquid gasket or get a new one (if they exist).

Or is it a common problem that you just have to live with

Oil leak + Common Problem + Honda shouldn't ever be used in the same sentence.

Sounds like bad maintainance by a former owner.

The rocker boxes have a rubber gasket, there isnt any silicon or other type of sealent on there, and they last a while.

If you take the rockerbox cover off you'll see how it clips around the top, make sure it is clean and not cracked or split and that the surface it mates to is also clean.

Tighten the rocker bolts upto the required torque and it shouldnt leak.. you can get new rockerbox seals still. I wouldn't put any sealent / goo on there as if some gets into the engine it can clog up the small oilways of the cam-caps.

Its not a bad job at all.. are your carbs clean / running alright? removign the rocket is easier with the carbs out so could use the opportunity to clean them too if there not runnign right.

Probably the rubber gasket isnt on proprely from bad fitting / loose bolt(s) or some grit under it.. worst case is the seal has gone but there not too pricey anyway. :)
