Nc35 fuel tap diaphram mod or not?

Right I was out on the bike last night giving it the beans, when the bike spluttered a bit then died. After much head scratching at the side of the road I removed the seat and tank and found the vacume pipe onto the tap was loose at the carb end, I refitted but will be getting a new pipe as it's a loose fit. This got me thinking is it worth getting a new diaphram kit or just doing the mod and doing away with it because I don't want it letting me down, any thoughts please? Pro's and con's?

I will be interested in the replies you get. My road tank has diaphragm problem and a tank for track needing a whole tap altogether. I may mod mine if the replies convince me or its cheaper lol

What a brilliant topic. Weighing up the cons i dont think i will do now. I forget 8/10 times to remove the damn exhaust bung i put in so adding another item to the list will only result in me losing a lot of fuel lol.
Thanks for the pointer.

I've ran this mod for over 2 yrs, never had a problem. Mind you I've always had a habit of turning fuel off when ever I've parked up.

Reading the thread supplied I think I will fit a new diaphram and some new pipe and take my chances with it, I can see some gains on a track bike but I just know I will forget to turn my petrol off or back on again when I set off! Thanks for all replys.

Am I missing something, why omit a reliable device that prevents possible engine damage?

After 20 or so years many diaphrams are in poor condition. It's works under quite fine operating conditions, as a result inconsistent fuel supply is a common problem on these bikes at this age, and not always easy to diagnose as sometimes the fault is intermittent.
It's a good mod for racebikes as it increases the flow of fuel to the carbs, one less potential headache (especially when you have massive jets in there!).
Personally, I wouldn't do it on a roadbike. A new diapharam kit (Rick Oliver) should fix any fuel tap issues.
