Issues starting my NC35 - detonates in the exhaust!

Hi!

Everything on the bike is standard except the exhaust. It`s an aftermarket one..
I`ve got detonation in the exhaust trying to start it. It`s a completely overhauled engine with all new bearings etc...

What should the pilot screw be set at? I recon I could have some starting issues with the pilot screw not the right amount of turns out..?

All jets is 108 all the way around.

When I get it started using ether it runs on idle perfectly and has no problem revving it up to the limit.
(BUT I`m not planning on adding an ether tank to my bike  )

Any suggestions guys?

Cheers!

Pilot screws should be set at 1 5/8 turns out and 108 main jets are the standard sizes, so I'd say 112 might be better for a race exhaust; also, float heights should be set at 12.5mm and an extra 0.5mm (1mm total) washer under the needles helps with any midrange flatspot!

If it's a more free flowing can I'd say 2 turns out works good. I tried the stock 1 5/8 but it was too lean for the exhaust and the revs hung from idle.

Thnks guys, but could the pilow screw be the reason for the detonation when I`m trying to start the engine?
If not, what could it be?

Cheers

That will probably be you flooding the engine / air getting into the exhaust.

These bikes are tempermental startes.. you want to use full choke with no thottle at all untli its running then gently rev it as you take the choke off.

The plugs die easy too so be careful if your flooding it

Got the bike starting now. 2 turns out on the pilot screw and one of the spark plugs had some issues so I replaced it.

But now I've got another problem: When reving the bike, it hangs a bit on the way donw before it returns to idle..
It hangs at around 2000rpm and then goes down to idle..

You're a little lean then, try turning it in half a turn to the stock setting 1 5/8
In for rich, out for lean.
