Hi
Anyone know how to part the RVF 400 headlight? Going to remove the orig. reflectors and replace them with hid lenses somehow..:)
After removing the 4 clips, it will still not part.

I looked at opening mine up to clean the inside of the lenses. Removed the 4 clips and said hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm???????????????????? Either it was being subborm and didn't want to come apart or there was more to it than meets the eye. I put the clips back on, stepped back, and walked away.

I used a hacksaw, but be careful not to cut away from where I have as you'll damage the reflectors. bare with it as the adhesive used is like sawing through gummy bears and clogs the blade easily. you noticed I bonded some small washers in the corners to restore the fit/size when they are bonded back together. hope this helps.

The hard bit is overcoming the glue/sealant stuff inside the join; when I opened mine I used a flat-head screwdriver to lever the two parts away and a stanley knife to cut the glue as it got exposed. Start at the bottom of the headlight; it'll take a fair bit of effort to get going and it's likely that some damage to the plastic will occur; it gets easier once you can get a good grip to pull them apart!
It takes some time, but it can be done! :)

 I don't think I need to clean mine that bad. I guess they can stay a little dirty on the inside. Thanks for the info.

I'm sure a mother of invention like you can sort something with isopropyl alcohol and a bendy swab thing Jeff. I use the term mother in the nicest way ;)

Thanks Carlos for not calling me a Mutha!

No flexy, bendy, swabby thing can reach this. It's between the lens and the black plastic body. It's on both sides in the inside corners. I'll just have to live with a bike that's only 95% restored. :o

I couldn't live with that man, looks like the poor lil fella is crying  don't spoil the ship for a ha'penny worth of tar mate.

PS.. it was that long ago I split mine that I forgot all about the clips, been thinking they were something to do with the calipers.
assembly will be alot easier now and I won't even bother sealing the unit again I don't think. thanks .
