3tj Offset Woodruff Key ???

Hi All,
I am looking for a 5deg offset woodruff key for my 3TJ2 (400 SP).
Apparently Factory Pro in the states did them for a 2TK, using the Part Number RTR-YAM-1-05. It is usually listed for a FZR/YZF 600.
Anyone know if this would work on a 3TJ, as the alternators are different to the older bikes, and more importantly where I can get one?
I don't want to go down the easier route of ditching the alternator, as the bike is on the road and there is not much space to slot the existing pickup.
Thanks

What are trying to do ???
The alternator windings are inside the 3TJ's cover whereas the 1WG or 2TK has them mounted to the engine.

You cant fit one to the 3tj, you would need to ditch the flywheel and fit a BDK advancer. You might also find that you want to be retarding ratrher than advancing 2 degree

Hi KIYOSHI,
The offset key will advance or retard the ignition, depending which way you put it in. I know the crank taper is slightly different between the older and newer models, as the flywheel is different.
My question is wether the flywheels are the same diameter, (it would affect the timing if they are not) and if the woodruff key is the same size etc.
As I said before, I need the alternator, so if anyone with actual experience in this mod is around, please let me know.
Thanks again.

You could try triming the insulation off the wires and mount the pickup on the engine case , the same as the 1WG.
You would have to make up some plates so that it is adjustable , then check it with a timing light.
Good luck, Pete

seems a lot effort for something that will only deliver about 2bhp on a highly tuned engine. Would have thought the effect on a stock motor would be very low.
4stroke had the best idea i think for a diy job or spend some pennies at bdk.
Is this for a road bike? Or a race bike?

Thanks for the info guys,
It is for a road bike with BDK Ram -air and S/S tapered header pipe. It has FCR's and the oil ways have been modded. The offest woodruff key is extreamly simple and easy to do, take flywheel off, replace woodruff key, put flywheel on.... hey presto 5 deg advance. I was just wondering if anyone had one or used one in the past. The other way is to slot the existing pickup, but that is fiddly compared to changing the key.

Are you sure a stepped woodruff key would fit? The crank is tapered and i cant really see how it would work, if the flywheel is not aligned with the slot on the crank a woodruff key simply would not fit as both the notch on the crank and flywheel will be completetly blanked off. And remember try 2 degree retarded not advanced

Oh yeh, thats how it works,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,sometimes i can be a bit special. Would it not be a bit of an arse having say 6 keys and changing them until you find the correct advance or retard? Both of my bikes make less power at 4 degree advance than 0 degree.
How about buying a strip of key steel and making your own? You could check the advance/retard with a dergree wheel??
