What did your bike go into te shop for in the first place? Just curious!

I don't know what a piston return spring could be... carbs sound most likely, I agree.

possibly means those little springs in the calipers that open them back out. "Anti-rattle shims"??

"Piston Return Spring" is a phrase used by sarchastic mechanics when taking the piss out of gullable trainees, like "left handed screwdriver" or "Glass hammer". Incedentaly, I was sent into town to obtain a glass hammer when I was an apprentice mechanic and actualy came back with one I got from a Thorntons shop.
