NC30 Choke issue

My NC30 has been fine all over winter, full choke, hit the starter, 3k, reduce it as it warms up.

Then I go to use it and the choke feels like theres nothing on the end of it, and only has a small effect right at the maximum limit of its travel.

So I've lubed the cable, taken the airbox off and its activating the arm on the carbs, so I oiled them anyway.

Now it still feels loose, and does seem to have an effect but the bike runs rough as hell with it on and only at about 1800 - 2200 revs. Its easier to warm it up by hand without the choke.

Whats happened? I rode it and it was fine, it went away for a week and then the next time I start it its doing this. Once its warm it rides as well as it always did.

I just can't figure out why it would just suddenly go like this.

Has the ferrule at the lever end got knackered?? Does the lever on the carbs move? It should be easy to figure where on the system it is not working..it is a simple beast

Whats the Ferrule?

The arm on the top of the carbs moves and the bar with the spring wound round it lower down on each bank of carbs seems to be moving, but not as much as I would expect considering the distance the actuating arm moves,

on the choke lever end, outside the bike, the cable comes into the mechanism. The cable is held by a ferrule and if that has failed or stretched the cable outer section will also move as part of the lever movement and so the inner moves less...

If you take the outer cable out of the choke lever, it will be obvious.

if not then the choke linkages might need a clean up to get them moving better
