my nc30 has a problem with the gears, it's hard to shift if the engine is out of a certain rev range especially between the 1st and the 2nd gears and often a loud clunk can be heard at the shift. Sometimes I have to press the shift lever multiple times to do it and this makes shifting really slow. The clutch seems to be properly adjusted, there is no crawl or slip and variation in clutch settings makes little or no difference for the problem.
What do you think it is, clutch basket pitting or sync mesh problem or something else (I don't know much about engines)? If the gearbox needs repair how big of a job is it, do you have to pull apart the whole engine, am I better off sourcing a replacement engine?

worn dogs. i had one that used to jump out of first at high RPM unless you kept your foot on the gear lever.
yes its an engine strip and alot of work. however if you can find a good used engine from someone here who can assure you the box is sweet, then you can have it changed over in around 4 hours.
pick up a good second hand engine for less than a couple of hundred quid. cost more for new parts and gaskets for your old engine

Theres one very strange thing about it, shifting is significantly easier after it comes back from the car-wash.
