Hey guys. Just bought myself a small black plastex kit from ebay to repair a snapped lug. I've still got the lug but would you mould a new one with plastex or is it strong enough to just 'glue' the old lug back on?



This isn't my fairing (just a picture I've taken from dx4's for sale thread). The lug in question is circled. its a clean break along the bottom of it.

re-inforce with fiberglass and resin also

Cheers Ricky. I've attempted to repair the lug before using super glue sprinkled with bi-carbonate soda. The soda acts as a catalyst and a filler and it sets rockhard in literally 2 seconds. I put a hefty amount of this on and around the lug but it snapped back off after taking off the fairings a couple of times. The problem with using super glue type material I think is its too brittle and doesnt offer any flex which is why I think it snapped off eventually. Im assuming that Q-bond is also cyanoacrylate based like super glue though, it may be more flexible.
I've considered plastic welding too. Mate has a soldering iron. I have some cable ties. It could work.

I bought the same stuff mate, I however didn't have the old piece as it had snapped off and disapeared. I molded mine from and old fairing and it worked a treat. My advice to you would be to 'V' channel the crack and pour the plastex in then turn it over and do the same to the other side.

Stick it back together, make a mould of it using plasticene, snap it back off again, use a dremmel or similar to roughen the broken edges so that there is a fine visible gap, fill this with plastex, when set trim any excess with the dremmel, job done!
I've used it a good few times now, it's very strong once set so long as the edges are roughenend and dirt/grease free.
Avoid getting any liquid on visible paintwork it will ruin it.
