Exhaust choice

Hi guys,

At the end of this month/start of next I'll be fitting some replica HRC velocity stacks and a foam air filter to my NC23, I've spoken with GF and have a good idea what jetting I'll be using. A couple of weeks back I picked up a Moriwaki EMU system for cheap, and have been struggling to decide whether I fit that instead of the DIC aluminium system that's on the bike at present.

Firstly, does anyone know which system is better and whether I'll have to change the jets if I just swap systems (both 4-1, same diameter bores before and after the collector box)

And secondly, the most important reason (and why this is in general not workshop) Which do you guys think looks better? The DIC aluminium, or the Moriwaki EMU?

How does the DIC look on the bike? The can looks like its bent.

It is bent, its meant to be like that, actually looks quite good on the bike, sounds awesome and is seriously light.

Give us some more info, such as:

Material
Header lengths
Weight
Noise level (if poss)
Dyno printouts (if poss)

The systems are as follows;

EMU -
Mild steel
roughly 5.5-6kg (need to weigh it on the digital scales)

Dic -
Aluminium
4.08kg

no dyno print outs or noise level (would guess around 102ish dB at 5k as it's as loud as my mates CB500 race bike which is limited to 102)

I'll measure the header lengths on sunday along with getting a pic of the Dic system on the bike

So you were the guy who out bid me on the moriwaki exhaust! :p

Was that the one not listed as a moriwaki?

What is the ball section for? Better midrange or something similar?

Not me mate, mine was sat in one of my dads mates sheds for the last couple of years, and he let me have it for £50  No idea what the ball is for, but they probably wouldn't put it there if it didn't do something lol

£50!?!? Bloody hell that's cheap!

The one I missed out on went for £120.

If you ever want to sell the dic system let me know :p

For looks I would say the Dic is prettier. But from an engineering/performance perspective I would say the Moriwaki is the better system - aluminium is not a good material for exhausts, and I would imagine the ball on the Moriwaki is designed to give a small power boost at a certain RPM.

It would be interesting if you did want to test them back-to-back on a dyno, but I think the differences would be small.

I prefer the look of the Moriwaki EMU, and when I got my stainless steel downpipes I would have rather bought a system like that, but unfortunately none seemed to be around at the time.

£50... I'm jealous.
