Hi everyone,

After getting fed up with mechanics  that do not pay any attention at all when working on my bike i came up with the following mod. What i'm asking is: Is it a good idea or will i be facing any problems, like overheating.

The rad is a little heavier but this is the least of my problems 'cause the bike is not for track use.

Some photos...

Hi,
I think you will be protecting the fins from damage, but i reckon you have reduced the effective rad area by about 30% or more with that mesh. I dont think you will notice overheating till the weather warms a bit, then i think you may get problems.
Why have you done it?
Sorry just realised you are in Greece, i think you will get problems with it getting hot!

The worst overheating issues can happen at low speed in trafffic on these bikes I reckon! ;)

:plus: You could be riding on the highway, without a care in the world. As soon as you hit some decent stop start, she's going to go through the roof.

What happened to the mesh right behind the wheel, or does the upper rad sit slightly above that?

And why have you gone all out with such beefy protection, have you had something puncture your rad before?

Sorry for my late answers (facing some problems with my computer).

@ Skinnydog, I have done this to protect the rad fins, this was the main issue for me. My bike is still "under construction" so i won't be able to tell you the results soon enough.

@ amaechizzle, As i wrote before, just to protect the fins. Yes i had a very bad experience with mechanics. The last mechanic that worked on my bike bent very badly a lot of fins, i had to work hours on the rad to get them straight again. The most annoying thing is that the workshop was a honda authorised (Correct me if i'm my writing is wrong) and the rad is brand new from David Silver. So yes, i had a very good reason to do this even if it is a little heavier or even if it gets a little hot. I think that all of you are correct about overheating in traffic, I'll see how the temp goes in the summer time.

You mean this one?

I still use it...it is for the lower rad.

Sorry I meant in the sense of protecting while riding, not from mechanic's.

IMHO It's going to happen either way, I can understand all the trouble if the area of the fins is quite large, and caused, not so much by carelessness, but by recklessness. Bent fins isn't going to cause any real detrimental effects to your cooling system.

If your going to straighten them out, do so, take a photo before giving them the bike next time, and then when you get the bike back, tell them if it's not in the same condition as how you gave it to them, they have to pay for repairs.

How much were the David Silver Radiators? They're not posted on the site, and mine are quite beat.

(Shipping is going to tear me a new one.... )
